You have probably spent months in front of the fireplace, drinking red wine while cosying up under a blanket. Time for something else now as airy clothes, chilled white wine and the smell of sunscreen are knocking on our door. We’re quite sure that you will enjoy Amsterdam’s clear blue (or grey) skies at any of these bright hotspots.

IJpromenade 2

Only until a few years ago, the pavilion of the Tolhuistuin was the canteen of the Shell offices. Today it is an eclectic cultural hub and garden with something to offer for everyone, from alternative music to contemporary art and original theatre. Make sure to enjoy a few drinks on the terrace at the banks of the IJ river before you hit any of the cultural events.

Liberation day

5th of May – Across the whole city

Liberation day in Amsterdam traditionally comes with various outdoor performances and a grand highlight: the closing concert at the Amstel River, accompanied by the royal family. During the day you could visit the seven stages and various markets at the Vrije Westen Festival in Westerpark. Or head to Museum Square for ‘Bevrijdingsdans’. This festival celebrates the country’s liberation in the style of May 1945: dancing on the streets of Amsterdam.

Vondelpark 3

Vondelpark 3

The Vondelpark Palvion is without a doubt one of the city’s most beautiful buildings and located in the midst of the park. Settle on the terrace, peek at the water and relax while joggers, tourists and couples pass by. You could stay here all day without any shame because Vondelpark 3 serves everything from an early breakfast to the last drink in the evening.

Rollende keukens

29th of May to 2nd o June – Westerpark

For the 12th edition, the Rollende Keukens (the Roling Kitchens) will park again in Westerpark to surprise the city with a wide variety of street food, music and laidback sessions. From fresh bouillabaisses to Spanish churros: a mouthwatering range of bits and bites will find their way from the food trucks to the foodies of Amsterdam.

Gedempt Hamerkanaal 201

Find Stork in the new, hip and industrial ‘Noord’ area. This former shipyard has been transformed into a delicious fish restaurant with, above all, a beautiful terrace for endless spring days and nights. With a perfect view on the IJ river, we cannot think of a better place to start May in full glory.
